Who We Are

The Sointula Resource Centre is a non-profit organization founded in 2002.
The purposes of the Society are:
1) to provide improved access to information and resources for residents and non-residents alike
2) to provide and maintain a central location for gathering and dissemination of information, products and resources of and to existing businesses, organizations, and individuals
3) to participate and partner in the ongoing creation of positive and sustainable economic, social and environmental conditions.
Our Services
Community Access Computers
We currently have three computers with internet access available to the general public.
Tech Support
We offer a range of tech support services, from one-on-one appointments to group workshops.
Online Application Support
We assist people needing to apply for everything from fishing licences to government programs and relief support.
Community Website
We maintain this website to provide information on Malcolm Island services, businesses, non-profit organizations and tourist-related information.
Online Community Calendar
We maintain a calendar of events on our website and encourage the community to submit their information to be posted.
Monthly Newsletter
We send out an electronic newsletter about upcoming events and announcements. Our members receive this by email and it can also be seen online.
Bulletin Boards
We maintain a local physical bulletin board with up-to-date community information.
Annual Malcolm Island Brochure
We produce and distribute an annual visitor guide/map brochure featuring local history, travel information, maps, and business/service listings. The brochures are available for free to visitors, local chambers, and tourist information centers across Vancouver Island. Businesses and service providers pay to be included in this collaborative marketing initiative.
Visitor Services Centre
We are the official Destination BC Visitor Centre for Sointula and provide in-person assistance to those looking for information on accommodations, local businesses and services, trails, whales, historic attractions and more.
MIBike Free Bike Share and Ebike Rental
During the warmer months (usually May – October), we offer a fleet of ten complimentary 7-speed bicycles for visitors and residents to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally, we now have six electric bikes available for rent for a fee.
Event Sponsorship
We organize or assist with everything from first aid courses to fun events to boost community spirit.
Community Market Garden Stand
We manage a year-round central location for local gardeners and chicken keepers to sell their produce and eggs.
Administrative Support
We offer administrative support to local non-profits to help enhance their fundraising and communication efforts.
Networking
We engage in networking opportunities with local, regional, provincial, and federal agencies to ensure we can provide our community with the most current and beneficial information.
Local Art and Merchandise Display
We provide space for local creators to showcase and sell their work at our central location.
Office Services
We support local businesses and residents with a variety of office services including the following:
- Printing (colour/b&w)
- Photocopying
- Scanning
- Faxing
- Laminating
- Letter writing assistance
- Computer and phone tech support
